WARNINGS
The abuse of laxatives can cause persistent diarrhea with consequent loss of water, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutritional factors. In the most severe cases the onset of dehydration or hypokalemia is possible, which can lead to cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunctions, especially in the case of simultaneous treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids. The abuse of laxatives can cause addiction, chronic constipation and loss of normal intestinal functions (intestinal atony). In children over 3 years and under 12 years the medicine can 'be used only after consulting your doctor. The treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires the intervention of the doctor for the diagnosis, the prescription of drugs and the surveillance during the course of therapy. Consult your doctor when the need for the laxative derives from a sudden change in previous bowel habits (frequency and characteristics of bowel movements) that has lasted for more than two weeks or when the use of the laxative fails to produce effects or when the patient is 'suffering from diabetes mellitus, hypertension or heart disease. It is also advisable that elderly people or those in poor health conditions consult their doctor before using the medicine. The use of laxatives in patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease or in the presence of abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, can be dangerous and therefore requires careful consideration. Cases of dizziness or syncope during defecation have been reported with the use of bisacodyl, compatible with defecation syncope (attributable to the effort of defecation itself) or with a vasovagal response to abdominal pain that can be associated with constipation. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this drug. The coated tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing. It does not contain gluten.

NAME
CONFETTO FALQUI CM 5 MG COATED TABLETS
EXCIPIENTS
One coated tablet contains: microcrystalline cellulose, talc, starch, titanium dioxide, ethyl phthalate, sucrose, glycerol behenate, povidone, sorbitol, methacrylic acid copolymer, triethyl citrate, shellac, macrogol 6000, sepifilm 002.
SIDE EFFECTS
The most commonly reported side effects are abdominal pain and diarrhea. Immune system disorders: anaphylactic reactions, angioedema and other hypersensitivity reactions'. Nervous system disorders: dizziness, syncope (the phenomena of dizziness and syncope that occur after taking bisacodyl appear to be attributable to a vasovagal response resulting from, for example, abdominal pain, or stool evacuation). Metabolism and nutrition disorders: dehydration. Gastrointestinal disorders: colitis, abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, hematochezia (blood in the stool), abdominal discomfort, anorectal discomfort.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of the drug in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Therefore the medicine should be used only in case of need, under the direct supervision of the doctor, after evaluating the expected benefit for the mother in relation to the possible risk for the fetus or infant.
INDICATIONS
Short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
INTERACTIONS
Laxatives can reduce the time spent in the intestine, and therefore the absorption, of other drugs administered simultaneously orally. Therefore avoid ingesting laxatives and other drugs at the same time; after taking a medicine leave an interval of at least two hours before taking the laxative. Concomitant use of diuretics or corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance if bisacodyl is taken in excessive amounts. Electrolyte imbalance can lead to increased sensitivity to glycosides. Milk or antacids can change the effect of the medicine; leave an interval of at least an hour before taking the laxative.
DOSAGE
Adults: 2 coated tablets per day; in particularly stubborn cases 3 coated tablets. Children: 1 - 2 coated tablets per day (0.3 mg / kg). The correct dose is the minimum sufficient to produce an easy evacuation of soft stools. It is advisable to initially use the minimum doses provided. When necessary, the dose can then be increased, but without ever exceeding the maximum indicated. The coated tablets should be swallowed whole and should preferably be administered after the evening meal, so that the effect of the laxative, which occurs after 10 - 12 hours, does not disturb sleep. Ingest together with an adequate quantity of water (a large glass). A diet rich in liquids favors the effect of the medicine. Laxatives should be used as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer periods of time requires a doctor's prescription after adequate evaluation of the individual case.
